Jean-Pierre Maes MCSP, Consultant Neuro-Developmental Physiotherapist
Founder & Director M.A.E.S. Therapy International
London, United Kingdom
Jean-Pierre Maes is an internationally recognised expert in cerebral palsy, related neurodevelopmental conditions and movement disorders. With more than 35 years of clinical and teaching experience across over 35 countries, he brings extensive expertise and insight to the field of neuro-paediatrics.
He graduated as a physiotherapist in Brussels in 1989 and specialised early in paediatric and adult neurology. From 1991 to 2013, he worked within leading Bobath organisations in Belgium and London, including 15 years at The Bobath Centre as a Consultant Neurodevelopmental Physiotherapist, Senior Bobath Tutor and Course Leader. During this time, he became one of the most experienced international Bobath-NDT Senior Tutors and mentored many therapists and trainee tutors.
In 2013, driven by a commitment to advancing clinical practice and improving outcomes for children, Jean-Pierre developed M.A.E.S. Therapy—Movement Analysis and Education Strategies. This pioneering approach supports the treatment and management of babies and children with cerebral palsy and similar neurodevelopmental conditions.
The success and international recognition of the M.A.E.S. Therapy approach led to the development of postgraduate M.A.E.S. Therapy courses worldwide. These courses are designed for paediatric therapists who wish to specialise, or further develop their expertise, in the treatment of babies and children with cerebral palsy and similar neurodevelopmental conditions. Through this advanced training, therapists gain new knowledge, refined analytical abilities and highly developed clinical skills that can transform the way they understand, assess and support each child’s developmental potential.
