The MAES A.R.T. Course

–  provides an opportunity to further deepen and build on your knowledge, and to further refine your MAES clinical reasoning and therapeutic approach in your work with children whom you are already following and treating.

After completing the MAES Foundation Course, you returned to your workplaces and continued to develop and refine your skills in the MAES therapeutic approach. We believe that the new experiences gained after the course have encouraged new questions and new reflections related to the application of MAES principles in everyday clinical practice.

At the same time, we all know that the children we work with grow and change. They develop new skills, change their compensatory strategies, and face new challenges. The MAES therapeutic approach encourages us to continue refining our observational skills and clinical reasoning so that we can adapt our therapeutic approach as effectively as possible to the needs of each individual child.

It is precisely to support continued learning and the further development of skills in working with children that we organise MAES Advanced Courses.

Course Aims:

This course aims for:

M.A.E.S. Trained Paediatric Therapists to refresh, go deeper, to review, question, troubleshoot and to advance their M.A.E.S. Therapy approach, knowledge, and clinical skills.

This will include reviewing and further developing:

    • The ‘M.A.E.S. Framework’ for an effective assessment and better understanding of the challenges and needs of children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and similar neurodevelopmental conditions
    • Expert analysis of coordination and effective and structured clinical reasoning skills.
    • Increased proficiency in prioritising and identifying which specific skills a child is missing and that need to be promoted and at the same time discouraging the compensatory strategies this child is over-relying upon and which prevents the development of more advanced skills.
    • Further develop Therapists’ high-level problem-solving abilities to then provide each child with specific sensory-motor experiences to make best use of their own potential for improvement.
    • Effectively informing and guiding parents during treatment sessions, including the use of toys for play and advise them how to best interact with their child during activities of daily living in a home environment.
    • Expand creative thinking and develop an extensive repertoire of treatment strategies which can then be applied more confidently in a range of situations to enable the child to learn new ways that he would have difficulty or not be able to develop on his own.

.

M.A.E.S. Therapy is a pioneering evidence-based approach, underpinned by practice evidence, patient evidence and contextual evidence from 35 years’ expert clinical and teaching experience world-wide.
It places strong emphasis on high-quality treatment skills and on understanding how each child’s brain organises, adapts and learns.

M.A.E.S. Therapy is the gold standard for treating children with Cerebral Palsy and similar neuro-developmental conditions and movement disorders; with more effective long-term outcomes compared to other therapeutic approaches such as Bobath-NDT, Vojta, Medek., DMI.
