This 5-Day Advanced Course was for fully qualified Paediatric Therapists who have already successfully completed the 4-Week M.A.E.S. Foundation Course.

Known as the MAES ‘A.R.T.’ Course – it was an opportunity for therapists to  ‘Advance-Refresh-Troubleshoot’  their M.A.E.S. Therapy knowledge for the better treatment of children with CP.

Rare time with Jean-Pierre, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience – case presentations, video analyses and discussions, practical sessions and workshops.

Our thanks to the team at Vista Nova School for their friendly and efficient hospitality.

Course Presented & Supervised by:  Jean-Pierre Maes MCSP,  Founder & Director M.A.E.S. Therapy International

and assisted by Shane Brassell and Sarah Smythe, MAES Team South Africa – Thank you!

Testimonials from some Participants:

You NEVER know enough, and this course gives you an amazing opportunity to brainstorm and treat with colleagues that understand the child from a MAES perspective. It is absolutely worth the time and is a very good refresher!!

A much less stressful learning experience than the Basic Course. A chance to reflect on your weakness and learn to trust the principles of MAES Therapy to help with observation and treatment strategies.
I could do this course once a year!
    Michelle Perks PT

“This is the perfect opportunity to refresh your knowledge, troubleshoot your skills, and advance in your MAES understanding and approach.
Definitely  worth your time!”
    Julia Huang PT

The Foundation Course is a flood of information and new perspectives for working with children with CP. The A.R.T. Course gave more time and space for me to challenge myself under JP’s guidance and continual questioning of why I was choosing a certain starting point and direction. The value of observing colleagues who are MAES Trained and teamwork in treating the children, allowed us to see and explore more possibilities with the children.

The MAES Therapy Advanced was like breathing in fresh air and a lightbulb moment at the same time. Things clicked for me for clients that I would have put on the MAES framework. It showed me the importance of reflecting behaviour and movements and encouraged me to wait and see before making assumptions.

I had been hesitant to join the course as it had been a few years since being on my basic course. But that was a mistake, the discussions with MAES colleagues and sharing our wins and fails allowed us all to grow. The children treatment sessions promoted growth and knowledge in a setting where we had support but were also challenged. The course left me with so much to think about but excited to implement my clinical skills in 2024. Thank you, JP, Shane and Sarah for sharing your knowledge and supporting us through the process.

Do what you normally wouldn’t do!

It is definitely  worth doing the Advanced Course. It helped me to broaden and deepen my MAES treatment and to understand even more what I am seeing and looking beyond the obvious.

I appreciated being moved out of my comfort zone. It challenged me to not fall back on the familiar and to move away from the theory and to focus on the practical implications with the patient in front of me.

The A.R.T. MAES Course was a brilliant way to reset and refresh my understanding of MAES Therapy. It was so valuable to problem solve and have in-depth discussions about children with neurodevelopmental conditions with fellow M.A.E.S. Trained Therapists. The course went further into the areas covered in the Foundation Course. It was hands-on and interactive, and developed our observational and problem-solving skills. I would highly recommend an Advanced MAES Course for those considering to refresh and advance their knowledge and understanding of MAES Therapy. It was an incredible learning experience! I look forward to future courses and continuing to develop my skills.
